Do I REALLY Need to Wash My Face Twice a Day?
Short answer: Yes! (But there’s a caveat.) Washing your face twice daily—morning and night—is ideal. At night, you’re clearing off makeup, pollution, and oil so your skin can repair itself overnight. In the morning, it’s about sloughing off dead skin cells and excess oil so your skincare works better
.
If you only have time for one cleanse a day, make it at night! Your skin does major repair work while you sleep, so give it a fresh canvas.
Should You Brush Your Hair When It’s Wet?
Yes—but use the right tools! Wet hair is more fragile, so using a detangling brush (like the Wet Brush) is your best bet. Avoid wide-tooth combs, which aren’t flexible enough, and never use a regular brush, or you’ll risk breakage.
What’s the Right Order to Apply Skincare?
We know it’s confusing, so here’s the cheat sheet:
- Cleanser
- Exfoliator or Mask (if using one that day)
- Toner (to balance pH)
- Eye Cream (before serums to avoid mixing ingredients in delicate areas)
- Serums (thinnest to thickest if layering)
- Moisturizer / Night Creams (Here are my recommendations) #1 #2 #3
- Sunscreen (AM only—always!) See my recommendations #1 #2 #3 #4.
Biggest mistake? Skipping sunscreen. Even if you’re inside, UV rays penetrate windows, and blue light from screens can mess with your skin too.
How Much Conditioner Should You Use?
Less than you think! Apply conditioner starting two inches from your scalp and work it through to the ends. If it’s dripping off your hair, you’ve used too much. Also, squeeze excess water out before applying for better absorption.
Mousse vs. Styling Cream—When to Use Each?
- Mousse: Great for volume at the roots—but remember, it’s heat-activated, so it won’t do much if you’re air-drying.
- Styling Cream: Ideal for smoothing and defining your hair throughout.
Pro tip: Mousse goes only on the roots, while styling cream can be applied throughout.
Do You Need a Separate Day & Night Cream?
It depends! If your day cream has SPF, you’ll want a separate night cream that’s more hydrating. Otherwise, using the same moisturizer morning and night is totally fine.
Do You REALLY Need Sunscreen Indoors?
Hate to break it to you, but yes. UVA rays penetrate windows, and new research suggests blue light from screens might contribute to pigmentation issues. If you want glowy, youthful skin, sunscreen is non-negotiable!
When to Use a Spray vs. Cream Heat Protectant?
- Cream: Use before blow drying on damp hair.
- Spray: Apply before heat styling (curling iron, straightener) on dry hair.
If your leave-in conditioner (like mine linked above) has built-in heat protection, you might not need a separate product!
